Who's Afraid of Germany David Dimbleby and Fred Emery report on the political convulsions in Europe as the two Germanies rush towards unity. East Germans vote next Sunday in their first free elections in over 50 years. But already the hundreds of thousands who have voted with their feet, moving to the west, have settled the issue in favour of 'one Fatherland'.
Behind the rejoicing there are anxieties among Germans themselves, while military and economic uncertainties are unsettling Germany's neighbours and allies.
Fred Emery reports from East and West Germany on the opportunities and the strains facing the German people in putting their contrasting societies together again.
David Dimbleby then chairs a studio discussion with leading statesmen from London, Washington, Moscow and Bonn on the diplomatic implications of German unity. Producer Jenny Clayton Editor Peter Horrocks
