Chris Serle is just an average amateur photographer. Will he convince a national newspaper that he has what it takes to be sent on a major picture assignment? For six weeks, Chris works with some of the top photographers in Fleet Street learning to capture the most dramatic moment of a news story. An Australian Family at War A powerful award-winning mini-series in five parts tracing the effect of Australia's controversial involvement in the Vietnam war through the experiences of one family.
Starring Nicholas Eadie as Phil Goddard, Barry Otto as Douglas Goddard, Veronica Lang as Evelyn Goddard, Nicole Kidman as Megan Goddard, John Polson as Serge, Celia de Burgh as Monica Montgomery

In government circles the major question is whether Australia should commit troops to aid the Americans in Vietnam. The Prime
Minister's aide, Douglas Goddard, supports conscription. At home, his son Phil is more interested in becoming a photographer than in contemplating foreign wars. His daughter, Megan, is growing up fast and growing aware of her sexuality, while his wife, Evelyn, is becoming increasingly frustrated by Douglas's patronising manner. Then comes the fateful day of the conscription ballot - it is a day that will change the Goddard's lives irrevocably and in every sense turn them into 'a family at war'.
