Save the Jungle!
The natural economy of a tropical rain forest examined from the basement to the roof. Firstly the fauna of the leaf-litter on the floor of the forest including Mexican agoutis and elephant beetles: in the middle storey, the butterflies and the 'air plants'; and finally colourful macaws, noisy howler monkeys and agile spider monkeys up in the forest canopy.
Rain jungles, the last unspoilt wilderness on earth, are under pressure, posing a vital problem for mankind.

The first of two films in which Chronicle pays tribute to the late Sir Mortimer Wheeler - archaeologist, soldier and television personality.
In 1973 he took Magnus Magnusson back to the landmarks in the first half of his life, from the battle of Passchendaele in 1917, to the battle of Maiden Castle, fought and lost by British tribes almost 2,000 years ago.

The latest news on wildlife with Su Ingle and Michael Jordan You may have tempted a hedgehog to your back door with a bowl of milk, but what happens to it once it leaves your garden? Mike follows one particular hedgehog throughout a single night, and finds it's travelled a good three kilometres. Su, by contrast, is up in the air in a microlite aircraft. What's that got to do with animals? Well, she's finding out how a buzzard soars, and filming buzzards themselves at their own level. And in the studio, Mike and Su come up with a good idea for a do-it-yourself mobile made from leaves.

Presented by Sir Huw Wheldon
On a cold February night 40 years ago two British frogmen crawled on to a Normandy beach from the freezing sea to take samples of sand for scientific analysis from under the noses of German sentries. It was one of the most audacious of all the incredible operations that went into the planning of the Allied invasion of Europe.
6 June 1944 has been called the Longest Day. Yet for thousands of Allied intelligence officers, resistance workers, scientists, engineers, inventors and logistic experts working every possible hour to make the landings successful, the previous 12 months had been all too short a year.
Throughout Britain during that period, men had been searching for the weak points in the vast German defences, designing sophisticated navigation aids, building artificial harbours twice as big as Dover, studying the vulnerability of the French railway system and inventing a fake army of 250,000 men -all to ensure that D-Day, when it came, would be successful.
SIR HUW WHELDON , then a Major in the 6th Airborne Division, landed with his unit on 6 June, to help defend the left flank of the invasion force against counter-attack. Tonight he tells the story of the Allied plans and preparations which helped ensure the success of Operation Overlord.
