from Guildford Cathedral
Harvest is now one of the most important events in the Christian calendar and at the modern Cathedral of the Holy Spirit they celebrate tonight with a children's harvest festival service. The Cathedral looks out over some of the richest farming land in England and children from 92 parishes throughout the Guildford diocese have come to give thanks for harvest and sing their favourite hymns.... ,
This year harvest has a particular significance for 11-year-old Lisa Chong who is to be baptised today in her local church. Among other people Geoffrey Wheeler meets is
James Stovold , whose family has worked the land for generations and 12-year-old Edward Fraser whose allottment project shows harvest on a smaller scale.
Come. ye thankful people, come (St
George): All things bright and beautiful- King Jesus hath a garden; Feed us now. 0 Son of God; We plough he fields and scatter (Wir pflugen): Let us. with a gladsome mind (Monkland)
To thee. 0 Lord. our hearts we raise
(Golden Sheaves) Praise we the Lord.
