Introduced by Cliff Michelmore
The Bronx may be up, the Battery down, but is New York down and out as far as British holiday-makers are concerned? Does the see-saw of pound and dollar make it unaffordable in 1983? John Carter reports from New York City and New York State.
Gleneagles, famous for its golf courses and the only five-star hotel in Scotland, has had a face-lift to suit the 1980s. Millions have been spent on swimming and sports facilities and, for the first time since the 1920s, the hotel is now a 'year-round' resort. Cliff Michelmore samples its new style.
In another of her reports on the Great British Weekend. Sarah Kennedy takes a look at Richmond in Yorkshire - the home of the famous Lass of Richmond Hill.

This week, the General Synod of the Church of England meets to discuss the controversial report ' The Church and the Bomb '. It's the latest in a long line of excursions into the political arena.
