The Mexican Salvador Sanchez , at 22 years old, is defending for the seventh time the Featherweight title he took from Danny Lopez just after his 21st birthday.
It is four years since Sanchez suffered his only defeat as a professional.
Pat Cowdell of England, the 28-year-old challenger, won an Olympic bronze medal in Montreal and was Commonwealth Games gold medallist in Christchurch in 1974. Four times ABA Champion, Cowdell entered the professional ranks and became the fastest British boxer to win a Lonsdale Belt outright.
