A series of seven programmes presented by Admiral of the Fleet, the Lord Hill-Norton, GCB 2: Carrier
' The Second World War taught the Royal Navy that seapower also means air-power.' ..
The fleet aircraft carrier is the most impressive fighting machine the world has ever seen: one carrier can unleash a greater variety of lethal weapons, with greater destructive power, at longer range, than any man-of-war in history.
For 40 years the carrier has dominated naval warfare - and she will be around for another 40 years.
This programme tells the story of the aircraft carrier from the First
World War to Taranto, the Battle of the Atlantic and the great carrier battles of World War II in the Pacific. It explains how the aeroplane went to sea and how the carrier became the capital ship, the backbone of the navy. And it looks ahead to the future of the carrier.
