A fire in the boiler room of a veteran American liner sparks off an explosion which threatens the survival of the ship and her passengers. The order eventually comes to abandon ship but in the chaos one man frantically struggles to rescue his wife trapped in the wreckage.
Determined to achieve a realistic effect, director Andrew Stone acquired a condemned ocean liner, set fire to it and sank it, and the result is a spectacular and gripping drama.
