Nine documentary programmes 7: Country Coppers
After the bustle of Hong Kong Island and down-town Kowloon, the villages and hamlets of the New Territories are oases of calm and order. Crime is not a problem here. But it pays to send out patrols into the hinterland, to act as the government's ears, eyes and PROs. If all seems calm on the surface, there are tensions. The people here, like all Chinese, believe in ' Fung Soy ' - the natural balance and harmony of their surroundings. So when a policeman at Lok Ma Chau blows out his brains in a sentry box, the young British station commander feels compelled to call in the local geomancer to exorcise his police station.
