4: The Streets of Hong Kong
The streets are dangerous, and their moods are unpredictable. For overcrowding and humidity make tempers volatile. INSPECTOR BROWN, who deals with Hong Kong's 999 calls, has always to adapt quickly to a rapidly changing scene. For there are no action replays on these streets. He has to decide there and then whether the bomb-call is a hoax, whether to use cs gas against the violently insane man, and whether to risk a charge of indecent assault by man-handling the girl. These are everyday problems. But Brown also has a longer-term problem of his own. He's under investigation by the Colony's anti-corruption commission, and if he's found guilty, it will mean his ruin.
