This year marks the centenary of the foundation of the Alpine Club, the first organisation of its kind devoted to mountaineering as a sport. Dr. Greene, who was vice-president in 1948 and 1949 and has many climbs and expeditions to his credit (including the Everest expedition of 1933 and the first ascent of Mt. Kamet in 1931), recalls some of its past history and achievements.
