If Proust's long novel, A La Recherche du Temps Perdu, can be said to have a villain, it is the young violinist, Charles Morel. Yet he was clearly very gifted, and after the First World War he was regarded with universal respect. It is conceivable that Marcel's view of him was biased and even vindictive.
