by Jean Giraudoux
English version by Penelope Davidson and E. J. King Bull
Other parts played by Catherine Willmer and members of the BBC Drama Repertory Company
Adaptation and production by E. J. King Bull
Giraudoux's play, set in Germany m the year 1921, anticipates history in its comments on the common and contrasting features of France and Germany and the rise of a popular dictator.
During the early part of next year the play is to be broadcast again, together with an alternative ending in which a different fate is suggested for Siegfried. It is uncertain which of the alternatives Giraudoux wrote first or which he preferred.
