A talk on the British attitude to sociology by George Homans Professor of Sociology at Harvard University
Professor Homans argues that any society rests on a set of unstated assumptions, British society more than most. This is one of the reasons why the British object to sociology, at any rate ' if the creatures in question are alive, human, and British.' (The recorded broadcast of August 4)

Talk by R. J. Z. Werblowsky
The notion that there is a ' natural religion' rooted in ' universally identical human reason' had its day. When this notion was no longer tenable what could take its place? Mr. Werblowsky suggests that the comparative study of religions points to a universal human disposition and agrees with Newman that religions ' in one way or another are founded in some idea of express revelation.' Is there any way from anthropology to theology?

Talk by John Summerson
A new volume of the Survey of London has recently been published, devoted to the southern area of the parish of St. Mary, Lambeth. John Summerson speaks about the changing character of this sixty-year-old enterprise which, in his words, is ' the standard descriptive history of the fabric of London.' The Survey, which was started as a voluntary work by a group of architects and antiquaries, is now published under the auspices of the London County Council and edited by Dr. Francis H. Sheppard.
