The Reith Lectures by Nikolaus Pevsner
1-The Geography of Art
Dr. Pevsner is Head of the Department of History of Art, Birkbeck College, University of London, and was Slade Professor of Fine Art at Cambridge from 1949 to 1955-
In these seven lectures he examines the arts practised in this country-chiefly painting, architecture, sculpture, and drawing-to discover the characteristics peculiar to the English. In the first lecture he asks what all works of art of one people have in common whenever they have been made, and what the forces are that have moulded their expression.
