A discussion between
Kenneth Galbraith
Professor of Economics
In the University of Harvard and Michael Beesley. Ph.D.
Lecturer in Commerce
In the University of Birmingham
In his book American Capitalism Professor Galbraith criticised the orthodox approach to monopoly and competition and suggested that the price of a product is more often determined by the relative bargaining power of buyer and seller than by the degree of competition. The speakers discuss some of the limitations of this theory of countervailing power, together with its relevance to anti-monopoly legislation.
