Talk by Robert Furneaux Jordan
Readers of The Golden Bough will remember that-according to Frazer— . Lake Nemi, set in the Alban Hills near Rome, was the scene of the oldest, darkest, and most mysterious of all pagan rituals — ' the priest who was the slayer and shall himself be slain.' To Robert Furneaux Jordan, who visited the lake this spring, it seemed as if time had stood still before its ancient shore.

Musica Callada played by the composer (piano) (first performance in this country) Federico Mompou was born in 1893 in Barcelona, where he now lives. The title Musica Callada has no exact equivalent in English: it means a kind of intimate music, intended for private rather than public performance, and especially suitable for radio.
