Walter Piston , Professor of Music at Harvard University and one of America leading composers, celebrates his sixtieth birthday today. His Violin Concerto was written in 1939 and dedicated to Ruth Possek, who gave the first performance the following year with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. It is in three movements.
