From Armagh Cathedral
Charles Wood and C. V. Stanford were the two Irish musicians primarily concerned in the renaissance of British church music at the end of the last century. They were much associated with each other, both at the Royal College of Music and at Cam-bridge, where each in turn was Professor of Music, Wood succeeding Stanford on the latter's death in 1924. Wood has a special connection with Armagh Cathedral, ashe was born in the organist's house.
by W. F. Jackson Knight and Tom Lockett
Vergil's poetry was written to be read aloud, and Vergil's own performance as a reader was much praised. This- programme describes the evidence available today for judging how Vergil and his contemporaries pronounced Latin, and the various changes Latin pronunciation has undergone in the subsequent two thousand years. The script by W. F. Jackson Knight , Reader in Classical Literature in the University College of the South West, Exeter, and Tom Lockett of the same College, is read by Mr. Lockett, and Jackson Knight reads a passage of the Aencid in what is thought to be the pronunciation of Vergil's day.
