The Positioi. of the Church of England by Canon J. 0. Cobham, Principal of Queen's College, Birmingham
Behind the changes in theological thought in this country the Church of England has exercised a stabilising influence, due in the first place to the effect of the Prayer Book. Canon Cobham considers the position of the Church of England after the results of Biblical criticism had been generally accepted: he shows how the Liberal solution of the problem was not satisfactory and traces the Tractarian resistance, and he examines the position of Bishop Gore and discusses the influence of Hoskyns both upon his followers and those who differed from him. In the course of the talk Canon Cobham will read an unpublished letter of Hoskyns containing what is probably his first written reference to Karl Barth.
Fourth of five talks.
