All the instrumentalists in this new ensemble, which is to give its first broadcast this morning, are drawn from the Medvedeff Balalaika Orchestra. Zaaloff, balalaika prima and vocalist, also broadcasts with the Slavonic Quartet ; Hilda Hills , balalaika prima, is only nineteen and was taught the balalaika by Medvedeff ; Wolkowsky, domra prima, was introduced to the orchestra by his father, who played in it ; Medvedeff himself is domra viola ; Ray Prince , bass and guitar, began playing in the orchestra when he was seventeen and was the first to play the electric guitar in England.
' Moscow ', to be played by the Quintet this morning, is a piece of contemporary Russian music that has become very popular in Russia during the last three months. It will be its first broadcast over here.
