The Wessex Players were formerly known as the Wessex Quartet-formed three years ago by A. H. Morgan-but recently two new members have been added. Mr. Morgan is an active member of many musical societies. During the War he was leader of the orchestra on the flagship Queen Elizabeth with Admiral Beatty. Before the talkies arrived, he was musical director of a picture house in Bristol for a time, and for three seasons he led the Municipal Orchestra at Ilfracombe.

In 1840 Schumann and Clara Wieck were married, after many delays and difficulties, and the marriage was from the first one of the most completely happy of which there is any record. Many of Schumann's finest works in the largest forms date from the next few years, and in 1841 he composed no fewer than three symphonic works. One was the B flat Symphony, which was performed under Mendelssohn's direction, in that same year, at a concert given by Madame Schumann in the Gewandhaus at Leipzig. Another, originally called Symphonic Fantasia', and first played with the title, ' Second Symphony', was eventually published, ten years later, with revised instrumentation, as the Fourth Symphony. The remaining work was this set of three movements, which it is supposed Schumann originally intended to call Sinfonietta

It is many years since Filson Young and Bernard Walke conceived the idea of presenting simple devotional plays acted by villagers in the Vicarage of St. Hilary. The sincerity of this first performance was so moving that the plays have become an institution. 
Most of the St. Hilary plays have been devotional in character, and conceived as an act of worship: Pollie Tregembo , however, is a comedy of village life. It tells the simple story of the stratagems employed by a young fisherman to win his bride in face of parental disapproval. It is pleasant to think that the St. Hilary tradition is preserved intact, for the new Vicar allows his house to be used again for this broadcast.
