Marie Antoinette 's Diamond
Necklace and Some Celebrated Black Pearls the property of Annie Viscountess
Cowdray, dec'd.
Broadcast from Sotheby's Rooms
Something of the atmosphere of an auction of three jewels of the highest importance will be conveyed to listeners. They will hear the auc- tioneer, but the bids are made in silence. The very silence will indi- cate, as every auctioneer will know, that big prices are going. The jewels are the diamond 43-stone necklet, worn by Marie Antoinette (a picture of it is on page 11) ; a necklet of oriental black pearls, forty-three in all, weighing approximately 882 grains, and probably the finest col- lection of such pearls in existence ; and a wonderful black pearl weighing 105.6 grains suspended on a small chain, set with diamonds, as a pendant.
