Basil Collier
When Basil Collier was staying in the Pyrenees last year he witnessed a curious piece of ceremonial, when the villagers dressed up and went in pursuit of a mock bear. The bear was really one of themselves disguised. Nobody knows the origin of this centuries-old ceremony, but it is probably a mixture of Christian and pagan ceremonials, and has to do with good hunting and the fertility of crops.

at the Organ of the Ritz Cinema, Belfast

Joseph Seal had his first cinema-organ experience at the Regal Cinema, Altrincham. From there he went to the Lonsdale Cinema at Carlisle, where he got his idea for his signature tune 'D'ye ken John Peel?'. After leaving Carlisle he went to the Ritz, Belfast, from where he has broadcast close on eighty times.
Seal's popular arrangement of 'Song Hits, Past and Present', which is a regular feature of his programmes, brings him a fan mail that takes most of his spare time to answer.

Led by Laurance Turner
Conducted by Arthur Wood
Arthur Wood was born at Heckmondwike, Yorkshire, in 1875. He was deputy conductor of the Harrogate Municipal Orchestra for some years, but in 1903 he became musical director at Terry's Theatre and later at various other well-known theatres in London. He has composed a considerable quantity of music, particularly for revues and musical comedies. His most recent success was an arrangement for brass band of Handel's ' Fireworks ' music. It was played during the London Music Festival by Callenders Band in Ken Wood before an audience of over forty thousand people, which included, among many distinguished musicians, Arturo Toscanini.
