Last week listeners heard all about a trip through the Panama Canal, and this morning they are to explore Colombia, in the extreme north-west of South America. They will visit Buenaventura, which was destroyed by fire not many years ago and is still a mass of wooden huts. It is always hot and always damp here, being so near to the Equator; and listeners may not be sorry to leave it, which they will do by train (which does not run every day) into the interior. They will reach the capital of Colombia, Bogota, and find that there are very different climates and cultivations in the hills and in the valleys. Back to Buenaventura, and Dr Stamp will take them on a steamer southwards down the Pacific... and so to Guayaquil, the principal port of Ecuador.

' Books about the Sea '

In the Book Talks this quarter, distinguished writers and critics are each surveying what has been done in a particular literary field, and discussing the books, ancient or modern, that they find specially notable. This evening H. M. Tom linson, author of many fine books about the sea, who was awarded the Femina-Vie Heureuse Prize in 1927 for what is perhaps his best-known book ' Gallions Reach will deal with the literature of the sea.

Incidentally, Van Phillips has signed a contract to compose, orchestrate, and conduct the music for the forthcoming Ralph Lynn-Tom Walls film, For Value.

Tonight's talk in this notable series on Shakespeare in the theatre concerns Shakespeare plays as they are performed in schools.
Geoffrey Crump , well versed in the reading and playing of Shakespeare in schools, is the senior English. master at Bedales School, which has a high reputation for its literary and dramatic work. He has also written books on Shakespeare and the Drama, and is the Director of the Steep Shakespeare Players, whose annual production in Lord Horder's garden theatre near Petersfield attracts a wide public every year, and of the English Amateur Players, who periodically tour the University towns of Scandinavia and Germany with Shakespearean and other plays.
