The English idea of a salad is far too often a bowl of lettuce with a slice of beetroot and a tired egg. Yet the vegetable ingredients of the delicious French salads may be grown in everyman's garden-endive and corn salad, chicory and purslain, carrots and cress.
Today C. H. Middleton is to bring to the microphone E. R. Janes , celebrated for his exhibition of vegetables as well as flowers at the leading shows for a world-famous seed firm; and Mr. Janes is to tell listeners how to keep the salad bowl going with infinite variety through the summer months, with a special word on the growing of tomatoes.

In 1872 Bizet composed a charming series of twelve little pieces for piano duet, which was entitled ' Jeux d'enfants '. Though conceived with the utmost simplicity of melody and harmony, these pieces are delicately pictorial. The music is about children rather than for children.
During the following year Bizet took five of the pieces and scored them for orchestra. Sir Frederic Cowen conducted the suite for the first time in London at a Philharmonic Concert in 1888.

Last month Kenneth Ingram , author of such significant books as ' The Changing Order 'Has the Church failed ? ', ' The Church of Tomorrow ', and ' The Coming Civilisation', gave three talks on the new expression of Christianity that has been produced by the pressure of world events, that views the spiritual and material as a unity, and claims that religion is unfulfilled if it fails to establish a Christian civilisation in our time. He has discussed fully the possibility, and the implications, of such a revival, and has received a very large number of letters from listeners, whose questions he will answer in his broadcast talk this afternoon.

Three years ago Peter Creswell, of The King's Tryall fame, produced a radio version of Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra; this afternoon he is to produce on the air Dryden's version of the same story. In writing All for Love Dryden abandoned the rhymed couplet for Shakespeare's unrhymed blank verse. Because Creswell feels that it does not bear comparison with Shakespeare's play, he has made a special feature of reproducing the atmosphere and whole feeling of a Restoration playhouse, when you could not hear yourself speak for the cries of hucksters before the curtain went up. He has been digging out some old huckster cries at the British Museum, and has himself written both Prologue and Epilogue; also a hymn to Isis which will be sung to Purcell's music.

An appeal on behalf of the LADY CHICHESTER HOSPITAL, HOVE, by a former patient of the hospital —ELSPETH DOUGLAS-REID , who will be introduced by CHRISTOPHER STONE
The Lady Chichester Hospital-a pioneer hospital, founded in 1905-treats cases of early nervous disorders among men, women, and children. No letters of admission are required ; the hospital has a large children's ward and out-patients' clinic ; and those who are unable to pay anything are admitted free. There is an urgent need to extend the men's department and to increase the facilities of the child-guidance clinic.
This cannot be done until the hospital is freed from the burden of a debt of over £8,000.
