The output of religious books is very large nowadays, and the selection of the right one as a gift to some particular person has never been more difficult-or more important at this time of the year. This afternoon the well-known literary critic and broadcaster, R. Ellis Roberts, is to make a few suggestions that may be helpful to listeners, who will be buying books as Christmas presents in the course of the next few days.

Twenty-five years ago Sir Stanley Reed was present at the Coronation Durbar, when Delhi became the new capital of India in 1911. This afternoon he is to give a talk on its historical importance to the rulers of India through the ages, and he will speak of Delhi as it heard the proclamation of Queen Victoria, as it received the visit of King George when Prince of Wales, as it heard the proclamation of King Edward VIII the other day. A new city sprung out of the old.
Sir Stanley joined the staff of The
Times of India in 1897, and was editor in Bombay from 1907 to 1923. He reported, as special correspondent for that paper and The Daily Chronicle, the famines in India in 1900, the tour of the Prince and Princess of Wales in India in 1905 and 1906, and the Amir's visit to India and the Persian Gulf in 1907.

by CECIL DIXON It is not impossible that the musical historians of the future will decide to class Scriabin among the great miniaturists. His big orchestral pieces, the symphonies, the ' Poem of Ecstasy', and ' Prometheus ', appear less and less frequently in the world's symphonic programmes. Even the ten sonatas have hardly established themselves in the average concert-pianist's repertoire. But Scriabin's beautifully polished miniatures are like nothing else in the literature of the piano.

Every second Sunday in the month since April 11, 1924, there has been a broadcast service from ' The Church in Trafalgar Square ', and the bells that will be heard this evening will be played once again by W. G. Blewett , who played them at the first broadcast on January 6, 1924, and in all these years has missed only one broadcast, and that was due to a rope breaking. This evening he is to play carols and Christmas hymns.

The Christmas Fund, for which ' Pat' McCormick is to appeal tonight, enables him to send Christmas presents to people all over the country who have seen better days and who have been recommended by those who know their circumstances. By far the greatest part of the money goes to people who have no connection with St. Martin's at all.
Apart from the coct of printing, the sending of receipts, and the despatch of acknowledgements, the Fund has no office expenses, as all the clerical work is done for Mr. McCormick by voluntary workers.
