'What not to do'
Assembled by JOHN CHEATLE and A. K. HAMILTON JENKIN and presented by John Cheatle
With appropriate music
Witchcraft, quackery, cheapjacks, and the oddities of superstition have their appeal for all of us, and here is a programme which tells in light-hearted fashion of some of the extraordinary methods adopted by would-be healers in the days before medicine became a science.
A. K. Hamilton Jenkin , who has specialised in out-of-the-way beliefs and surviving customs amongst country people, has here supplemented his knowledge by ransacking old books and pamphlets dealing with ' curious cures '. This afternoon listeners are to hear the results of his investigations into weird and sometimes fantastic things.
'For all Ills ' was broadcast in the Regional Programme on Thursday evening

Leader, J. Mouland Begbie
Conductor, GUY WARRACK
Debussy's ' Petite Suite ' was originally composed, about a dozen years before the ' Nocturnes ', as a duet for piano (four hands), the medium to which Schubert was so much attracted, and to which many composers after him have been drawn at least once in their career. It was, for instance, the original form of Ravel's popular Mother Goose' Suite, which be afterwards expanded into a ballet.
The ' Petite Suite' was first played by the composer with Jacques Durand , a son of his publisher who had been a fellow student with him. It was the latter who made the piano solo transcription which is in general use, but the orchestral version is the work ot Henri Busser , a prix de Rome of 1893, who is known as the composer of several operas and a ballet.

Of the Two Leslies, Sarony went from soldiering to songs: Holmes from biscuits to broadcasting. Sarony was invalided to Malta during the war, and his first songs were composed for hospital concerts. He had no idea he would one day write winners like ' I say Tweet-tweet '. Holmes travelled in biscuits after working on a farm and playing the piano in a cinema. He was to become Henry Hall 's drummer at the Gleneagles Hotel, and, later, to discover that he had a voice.
Among others in tonight's bill are
Billy Bennett as Mose, and James Carew as Alexander; Ivor Moreton and Dave Kay , once ' dizzy-fingered duettists' in Harry Roy 's Band ; Jenny Howard , and her husband, Percy King (who still talk of the marvellous holiday they spent at Marrakesh, in Morocco) ; Gaby Vallé, just back from Italy (tonight she is to sing the Jewel Song from Faust; and ' Britain's Master of Comedy ', Will Hay, the world's worst schoolmaster.
