The little things count in food as well as in other matters. This lesson shows that health depends not only on the quantity of protein, carbohydrate, and fat eaten, but also on the presence of minute amounts of salts and vitamins.
A few of the more important salts and vitamins will be described, and mention will be made of the ill effects caused by their absence. The foods capable of correcting these deficiencies will be named.

The Mozart Symphony in C major (K.338) was one of the three symphonies that he wrote at Salzburg in 1779-80, the period of his service with the Archbishop. In 1781 occurred the celebrated incident of the kicking of Mozart by the Archbishop's steward, in consequence of which he left Salzburg for ever.
This delightful work, one of the finest of all Mozart's earlier symphonies — ' all air and fire', as one critic has described it-was long unaccountably neglected, but is now an established favourite. The champagne-like sparkle of the first movement, the grace of the second and the fire of the third are unforgettable.

In his recollections Rachmaninov tells us that his third Piano Concerto ' was written (in 1909) especially for America, and I was to play it for the first time in New York under the direction of Walter Damrosch. As during the previous summer I had not found much time for practising and was not familiar with some passages, I took a dumb piano on the boat with me and practised dunng the journey. I believe it is the only time I have resorted to this mechanical toy, which, however, at the time, proved very useful.' This Concerto, containing some of Rachmaninov's finest music and written with superb mastery for the soloist, was extremely well received and a second performance immediately followed under the famous conductor and composer Gustav Mahler.
