The story is of Sicilian village life. Turiddu, who is singing a serenade to his old sweetheart, Lola, has come back from soldiering, to find her married to Alfio. It is Easter morning and Lucia and Santuzza are left alone. Santuzza tells Lucia how Turiddu has turned to her for consolation after Lola's inconstancy, and had now deserted her. To Alfio, too, she tells the whole story of Lola and Turiddu, and the wagoner vows vengeance. It is at this point that the Intermezzo is played. In the second part the tragedy hurries to its eompletion, Alfio challenging Turiddu to fight, and killing him.

LESLIE WOODGATE (organ)
Adrian Batten. who died in London in 1637, was successively a choir-boy at Winchester Cathedral, vicar-choral of Westminster Abbey, and organist of St. Paul's Cathedral. He was a voluminous composer, some of his anthems are still sung, but he is remembered chiefly in connection with the ' Batten Organ Book', a collection of valuable sixteenth-century church music put into organ score by Batten himself.
Pelham Humphries (or Humfrcy) and Dr. John Blow were represented in this series a fortnight ago.
Matthew Locke (1630-1677) is now associated chiefly with his incidental music to Macbeth, but in his day he enjoyed considerable reputation as a composer for the church and the stage.
Benjamin Rogers (1614-1698) was born, and passed much of his career as a lay-clerk at St. George's Chapel, at Windsor. He composed much Church Music.

Here is a rolling stone who went the way of most by throwing up a safe job to set out for Canada and romance with thirty shillings in his pocket. He sampled the life of a cowboy, had a shot at lumber-jacking and railroading, and then became a steward on a liner with the object of reaching the South Sea Islands, of which he had dreamed as a boy. But, alas, the liner did not put in at ' the Islands of the Blessed ', but carried him on to Sydney and facts.
He refused to be beaten. The perilous adventures he had in trying to realise his dreams in the company of a charming and brave girl provide the drama in Mr. Ralph Stock 's talk.
