Tonight is the opening night of a series of boxing events at the Empire Pool and Sports Arena, Wembley
Tonight's contest will appeal to a wide circle of enthusiasts. Len Harvey has become something of an enigma since he first entered the heavyweight division and captured its crown. This fight, the first in which he has taken part for some considerable time, will give him his chance to show how far he has recovered the form that took him to the top. In his long career Harvey has given abundant proof of his boxing skill, his ring generalship, and his capacity for planning his fights, and in experience he has few rivals.
As for his opponent, Walter Neusel has already many friends amongst boxing patrons in this country. This tall, fair-haired young German has shown us his quality in more than one contest in London, and he is always an interesting fighter, though, like Harvey, he has not always shown consistent form. For him, too, this match provides an opportunity for a come-back, as he is eager to avenge his recent defeat in Germany by Max Schmelling , formerly champion of the world.
There will be no doubt, therefore, that the contest will be keenly fought and Lionel Seccombe is likely to have plenty of action to describe. Listeners will welcome the chance to hear one of his ringside commentaries again.
