NEVILL WHALL (' Hodites ') : ' Cycling in High Places'
Most of those who cycle welcome a level road. Not so Mr. Nevill Whall. As the highest roads to be found in England, Wales, and Scotland are a mere 2,000 feet, he must go abroad where there is big stuff to be found.
He has cycled over the Stelvio Pass, that is over sixty miles long and rises to 9,000 feet, with forty-four bends on one side and thirty-six on the other. The highest completed road in Europe. But Mr. Whall's arguments are so sound and the inducements he holds out are so attractive that many of his listeners may decide to take a cycle abroad next year..... He is such an enthusiast that he is going to tell you the type of cycle to order. He loves the mountains, and really believes this is the best way to see them.

Two years ago the Cole Brothers came over from America on a holiday. They are still working. Rudy Starita has a number in which he plays bells and the xylophone at the same time.
Anona Winn is afraid of earthquakes.
But then she has been in three-in America, in New Zealand, and in Japan. Not so long ago she was playing at Manchester and thought she was in a fourth. But she was staying at a station hotel and it was only a train passing by. Arthur Askey was a Civil Servant in Liverpool who entertained in his spare time. But he made people laugh so much that he soon found entertaining a whole-time job. Robb Wilton has been topping the bill all over the country.
Ella Shields is just back from Australia and will be sure of a big welcome tonight.

'Scrapbook for 1918 '
The Dawn of 1918 found the world exhausted after three years of Armageddon. This programme will depict for you the inherent drama of that year-a year that turned from deadlock and anxiety and retreat to the final collapse of the Central Powers. Here is something of the spirit that kept the British forces, in Haig's famous words, ' With their backs to the wall', and led them to final victory. The heroic raid on Zeebrugge, the concert parties behind the lines, the popular war-time revues and musical comedies, will be remembered in ' Scrapbook for 1918 ', together with incidents leading up to the final scene of the signing of the Armistice in the railway coach at
Compiegne.
