T. E. HAMMOND : Walking to
Brighton '
IT WILL DE REMEMBERED that on January 27, 1932, at the Albert Hall , H.R.H. the Prince of Wales made a plea for voluntary work in aid of the unemployed. As a result of this appeal it was arranged for Mr. S. P. B. Mais to make a tour of the depressed areas and, under the title of ' S 0 S ', to give a weekly broadcast talk describing the conditions of the unemployed.
The present series has been arranged as a sequel to the talks given a year ago. It is easy to forget, and these talks will help to remind listeners of the conditions in which many of their fellows are bound to live. Mr. S. P. B. Mais will open the series tonight, but the talks that follow will be given not by an outside observer, but by unemployed men and women themselves.

ONE of our cleverest and most versatile actors is to present a sketch tonight. Donald Calthrop made his first professional appearance when he was eighteen ; became an actor-manager when he was thirty, and in the last few years has made a big name for himself on the films.
Mose (Billy Bennett ) is to return to the microphone with a new Alexander, and listeners may amuse themselves by guessing who he is. Al and Bob Harvey are racing across the Atlantic from Canada to keep the date.
Mamie Soutter made her professional appearance at the age of seven, when she secured a contract at 6d. a week of six performances. She was such a success that a rival manager snapped her up, and her salary jumped sensationally to 2s. 6d.
Julian Rose is back again, and listeners will welcome his return both to health and to the microphone.

Captain DAVID BONE
CAPTAIN DAVID w. BONE is in active service as Commander of the Transylvania of the Anchor Line. He has also written largely about ships and seafaring life. His books are ' The Brassbounder ', ' Broken Stowage ', ' Merchantmen-at-Arms ', ' The Lookoutman ', and ' Capstan Bars '. A long and varied sea life that began-in 1890-with service in square-rigged sailing ships, and now continues in a great transatlantic liner, gives him both text and warrant for a series of talks about the sea and ships.
Listeners need not expect the figures and sad economic facts of present-day shipping to be seriously stressed by him. These, he thinks, are more impressively presented on the printed page. His text in these talks will be the personality of ships, their warmth and comfort; the men who man them, their relations with one another and with the shore ; the ports-home and foreign-that harbour ships.
