SCHOOLS know well enough that this talk this afternoon cannot be other than entertaining when it is to be given by Clifford Collinson , for, whether as himself or as that cheerful idiot ' George he is a personality.
Schools are to hear today that Collinson owns a wheat farm on the prairies of Saskatchewan which he wants to get rid of, and no doubt it was when he was fed up with wheat that he made a note or two on Canadian cowboys. He is going to tell you all about chaps (not yourselves, but furry leggings to pull over trousers) ; about lariats (ropes) ; and brightly-coloured neckerchiefs (to keep the sand from .the throat when riding a gallop).
And lots more about cowboys by a man who has been everywhere and done everything. A copra trader in the Cannibal Isles ; a shooter of alligators in the tropics, and of rapids in America ; a rider of surf-boards in the South Seas; a lecturer and entertainer to Schools.

THIS EVENING'S BROADCAST on Education in Africa will deal with the importance and complication of native education ; the difficulties of language, and of dealing with a strange mentality; the Government and missionary contributions ; the clash of Western ideas of education with tribal custom; and some recent educational experiments.
Margaret Wrong, who is Secretary to the International Committee on Christian Literature for Africa, has not long been back from a tour round the Continent of Africa by boat, car, and aeroplane. It will be remembered that she broadcast a Missionary Talk on meeting the literature needs in Africa today, under the heading of 'The Talking Leaf' on January 28.

RAOUL LAPARRA is no stranger to the slightly older generation of British audiences, although very little of his music has been heard in this country. He was born in 1876 at Bordeaux, was awarded the Prix de Rome, and a few years later gained international recognition with the opera which came to be so intimately associated with his name almost to the exclusion of his other works ; this was La Habanera, produced first in Paris in 1908, and brought to Covent Garden two years later. At Covent Garden it was received with far more than the usual cordial reception given to those very few operas that please on the first hearing. It attracted principally by the piquant Spanish flavour of the greater part of the opera, for Laparra, although a Frenchman, had, like a great number of his contemporaries, the faculty of appearing to make Spanish music sound more Spanish than could the Spaniards themselves. Laparra has, however, made a very close study of Spanish and Basque folk music and folk lore, and much of his other music is based upon Spanish dance rhythms. In 1933 a Suite of his was heard at Queen's Hall, ' Un Dimanche basque ', for piano and orchestra. On this occasion the composer played the piano part.

' Ghosts and Haunted Houses '

IN HIS BROADCAST tonight Sir Ernest Bennett will emphasise the certainty that men and women, with sound minds and bodies, do from time to time see phantasms of both the living and the dead. But it is Ghosts in the ordinary sense of the word (i.e., the apparitions of dead persons) which he will discuss at length.
He will tell listeners how the Psychical
Research Society took a wide census of alleged experiences in 1899, discarded all narratives which could not be corroborated, and then analysed the number left which amounted to over five hundred. He will tell listeners the result of that analysis and exactly what has been learned from it; and he will ask them at the end of his talk to send in accounts of any experiences of their own, for only by investigation can still more be learned of these phenomena.
Sir Ernest Bennett has been Assistant
Postmaster-General since 1932. He has represented Central Cardiff in the House of Commons since 1929, as a Labour M.P. from 1929 to 1931, and as a National Labour M.P. since 193 He is a Member of the Council of the Psychical Research Society.
