Conductors,
Sir DAN GODFREY and W. H. REED
MELSA (Violin)
Relayed from The Pavilion, Bournemouth
(Conducted by THE COMPOSER)
W. H. Reed , M.V.O. (or if you prefer it, as most of those who know him do. Willie Reed ), has been a member of the London Symphony Orchestra since its foundation twenty-nine years ago and its loader since 1912. But orchestral playing is not by any means the whole of his work. As a chamber music player he took part in the first performance of Elgar's chamber works; ho teaches at the Royal College of Music, and does a good deal of conducting. As a composer he has written half-a dozen or so growingly successful works for orchestra. Nearly all of them have been first produced in the West Country, which is as it should be-Reed is a Somerset man.

Here is Radiovaria again, and again a definite story running through the programme. Claude Hulbert is assistant manager of an hotel which is on the rocks. As this is his career, and as he is engaged to be married to Enid Trevor , who is the daughter of Tommy Handley , the proprietor, something has to be done about it, and listeners may trust Claude Hulbert to do it. With Leonard Henry as an Indian Rajah , who is important to the plot, and Horace Kenney as a lugubrious waiter, listeners may be sure of droll situations and plenty of fun.
