Local Government-IV
'Municipal Services versus Private Enterprise '
Councillor W. LEACH , of Bradford, and Alderman WALKER , of Leeds
The dispute as to which is the better-municipal or private control of services-has continued for years. Hence we find that in one town the Council provides trams, omnibuses, gas, electricity, and so forth, while in another these essential services are supplied by private enterprise. Which is the better ? Extreme pro-municipal authorities would go further if Parliament were to grant them the powers, and take over the butcher, the baker and the candlestick-maker. Tho dispute goes on. Tonight two councillors with opposite views are to place their contentions before listeners, who thus will have the opportunity to hear both sides of the argument.
