HERMAN FINCK , in spite of the fact that
H his years do not exceed sixty, has had the experience of a veteran in every activity known to the light opera stage. He must have conducted, at one time or another, in every theatre of note in London, and he is as popular a figure as ever turned his back on an audience in the exercise of his craft. His compositions, mainly of a light order, are numerous and very engaging. Who does not remember his In the Shadows, the tune that haunted the country for a year or more, and still lives? The late Colonel Mackenzie Rogan , the famous bandmaster of the Brigade of Guards, once recorded the existence of the smallest Club in London. It consisted of himself, Sir Alexander Mackenzie , Sir Edward German , and Herman Finck , and the members used to dine together every so often for years.
