Trevor Owen (Tenor)
Charles Auguste de Beriot, who was born in 1882 in Louvain, was doubly distinguished in that he was one of the most celebrated violinists of his time, and that he was the second husband of the singer Maria Malibran, the famous daughter of the great Garcia. His marriage did not last long, for while Malibran was still young she was thrown from her horse and died as a result of the accident. For a long time after her death Beriot appeared only occasionally in public, and for the last twelve years of his life he was quite blind. His few but distinguished compositions for the violin have always been very popular items in the repertory of violin virtuosi.
