A certain rocky stretch of the South Devon coast would be even more perilous to mariners than it is but for the ever-watchful eyes of the men at the Hope Cove Coastguard Station. In this talk, Station-Officer Bryant describes the day's work there and the grand panorama of shipping that the look out man sees through his telescope. He also gives an exciting account of what happens when a ship is wrecked and the coastguards go to the rescue, and tells of some of the wrecks he himself has seen.

Professor JAMES RITCHIE , D.Sc. (Professor of Natural History in the University of Aberdeen): 'An Endless Warfare-The Fight between
Domestic Animals and Wild Animals'
(From Aberdeen)
IN the domestication of animals for his own various purposes, man has found staunch new allies in his long struggle for the mastery over wild nature. Domestic animals must be fed; so the large tracts of native forest disappear to give place to pasture and meadow, and the destruction of the forest implies in turn the destruction of the forest fauna. Professor Ritchie, continuing his series of talks for lovers of the countryside, here deals with the far-reaching effects of this interesting evolutionary sidelight.
