ON Whit-Sunday two years ago the Memorial Service of the British Legion was broadcast from the Cenotaph in Whitehall. A similar service will be held there as usual this Whitsun-tide, and at many other centres up and down the country. The most important ceremony this year, however, is that held at Southsea, near Portsmouth, where the Legion's Annual Conference is due to open on Whit-Monday. To pay this solemn tribute to the memory of their fallen comrades upwards of ten thousand ex-Service men will be assembled before the Naval War Memorial, which stands in a commanding position on Southsea Esplanade between the spacious green common and the sea. Incidentally, this Memorial, which rises to a height of a hundred feet, is a replica of the Naval Memorial at Chatham.
