A programme for children under five
Nursery rhymes, stories, and music

'Dear BBC,' wrote a small boy, we have a tortoise and our neighbour has a cat which comes into our garden and thinks our tortoise is a stone. So please will you tell us the story of Mitten-the-kitten.'
Our young listeners will not be slow to appreciate the logic of the request which concludes this letter, for they will remember how Mitten, the little black kitten in the tale by Christine Rees, was deceived in just the same way as that neighbour's cat. Thus, indeed, life and stories are constantly reflecting one another for our under fives.

Mitten's many admirers may hear again about his encounter with the tortoise when Julia Lang tells this story tomorrow. Today she reminds them of how he lost (fortunately only temporarily) the white mitten of which he was so proud and for the rest of the week she will recall what happened to him on his first introduction to a mirror, a camera, and a scarecrow. And, let us add, she will not forget to sing his song - 'I'm Mitten the Kitten, the Kitten with a mitten, I'm Mitten the Kitten, Yo ho!'

Mrs. Dale, the doctor's wife, records the daily happenings in the life of her family
Script by Lesley Wilson
Bob and Sally spent Easter at Rose Cottage. There they met Miss Pink, who complained she could not persuade Mrt. French to allow her any time before her wedding to finish her shopping. Maggi visited Mrs. Dale because he had decided to buy Mrs. Morgan a dress for her birthday, and wanted advice on the size and style. Mrs. Dale endeavoured to persuade him against such a gift, but he was adamant. Bill Francis announced that Cooper's solicitors had agreed to withdraw their summons provided Bob repaid a sum of £ 500. He arranged to meet Reeves at his office, in an endeavour to persuade him to pay his share of the money.

Guide and storyteller, Hugh Ross Williamson
The story of St. Paul's is one of fire and victories. Twice utterly destroyed, it rises always, a phoenix. from the flames. Here Queen Anne came to give thanks for Marlborough's victories and here, two centuries later, the bells rang out for Alamein.
