Great Britain v. France
Commentary by Harold Abrahams and Rex Alston during the first day of the International match at the White City Stadium
This year it is Britain's turn to be at home to France in the annual athletics match between the two countries. Since the match became Great Britain v. France in 1933, Great Britain has won ten times and prior to that, when the match was between England and France, England had won six times. France has won five contests in all.

From Epsom Racecourse
For the last few years the Diomed Stakes has had disappointing fields, and to encourage a larger one the Epsom Grand Stand Association has altered the conditions of the race and turned it into a handicap event. As a result twenty horses were left in at the close on Jun 23. The final acceptance date was Tuesday last.
The race, run over 1 1/4 miles, is named after Diomed, the first winner of the Derby Stakes in 1780.
