Appeal on behalf of the Missions to Seamen by Richard Dimbleby , O.B.E.
Contributions will be gratefully acknowledged and should be addressed to [address removed]
This year the Missions to Seamen, the ' Flying Angel,' as it is affectionately known among seamen, celebrates its centenary of service to all seafarers along the trade routes of the world. In its seventy-seven institutes and hostels from Rio to Rotterdam, Manchester to Melbourne, and Singapore to Southampton, the Missions' chaplains, lay readers, and other workers are available to help seamen both ashore and afloat. Often the ' Flying Angel chaplain is the first visitor to climb the ship's gangway in port, bringing a warm welcome and the assurance of helpful Christian care offered to all seafarers, irrespective of race or rank. To continue this work the ' Flying Angel' Mission needs about £ 360,000 annually.
