The river Irrawaddy takes its name from a legendary white elephant which was the mount of the Hindu God Indra, and there is a tradition that Buddha himself once walked the earth in this guise. But Po Min, who exhibited his white elephant at the London Zoo in 1919, was a Christian who did not believe these legends at first.
