The Friends Service Council has, since 1953, helped to restore to full working capacity a 250-bed hospital in Korea. The Council is also helping to house some of Korea's refugees, and to provide schools for refugee children.
Work among refugees and displaced persons still living in camps in isolated parts of Germany remains, however, the Friends Service Council's biggest commitment in the field of relief.

Winifred Dartie's case for divorce comes up in Court, to the great distaste of her son Val, who is in love with Jolyon's daughter Holly. Holly does not turn up at the meeting place arranged with Val. He rides to her home at Robin Hill and asks her to marry him. Her brother Jolly, whose dislike for Val is intense, is angry and challenges Val to join the Imperial Yeomanry at the same time as he. Val accepts, and at his grandfather's that night drops a bombshell upon the Forsyte family by telling them the news.
Meanwhile Soames is disturbed at the news that his cousin Jolyon is visiting Irene in Paris, and suspects him of being Irene's lover.
