by Roger Bannister
During 1954 Roger Bannister has achieved three great athletic successes; he has won the Empire Games mile, the 1,500 metres at the European Athletic Championships, and broken all previous records with his ' four minute mile.' It is not, however, as an athlete that he is invited to broadcast today, but as a thoughtful representative of his generation and as one whose interests are by no means confined to the sport he his perfected but has never allowed to divert him from his professional career or his more serious purposes.
