A soldier writes home for Christmas
The track of an air letter is followed across the world-from a British soldier serving in Korea to an address in London
Greetings from the Parish Church of St. Andrew, Edinburgh: St. John's Church, Cardiff; St. Patrick's Church, Coleraine, Co. Londonderry; St. Martin's Church, Birmingham; Liverpool Cathedral; St. Peter's Church, North Tawton, Devonshire; St. Martin-in-the-Fields, London: and the recorded bells of Bethlehem
Listeners are invited to join Frank Gillard on a tour of Britain to see how everyone else is spending Christmas morning
Reporters are standing by at various points in the United Kingdom to introduce Christmas scenes and personalities. It is hoped to include reports from Peter Scott on Herm in the Channel Islands; John Arlott in the kitchen of a London hotel: Ralph Wightman with a downland shepherd in Wiltshire; Godfrey Baseley on a Norfolk turkey farm; Leo Hunter at the starter's box on the Old Course at St. Andrews: a Norwegian church in Swansea: a racing stable in the North Country; and a Welsh bake-house cooking Christmas dinners
The music includes carols; choirs: Scottish dance music: a Salvation Army Band; and studio contributions from Belfast by Henry Hinds (bass), and the Light Orchestra, conductor, David Curry. and from Bristol by the BBC West of England Singers and the BBC West of England Light Orchestra, conducted by Reginald Redman
Programme edited and produced by Desmond Hawkins and John Irving
