Appeal on behalf of the ' Wireless for the Bedridden' Society (registered in accordance with the National Assistance Act 1948) by Compton Mackenzie , O.B.E.
Contributions will be gratefully acknowledged and should be addressed to [address removed]
The aim of the ' Wireless for the Bedridden ' Society is to bring consolation and renewed happiness into the lives of men, women, and children who are bedridden or housebound and are too poor to buy a wireless set for themselves. Since its foundation in 1939, sets hive been provided throughout the whole of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, even as far north as the Island of Barra in Scotland.
At the present time income is not meeting expenditure, and if the work is to continue this gap must be closed at all costs. The Society is not State aided and. apart from one or two minor grants, the funds are provided entirely by voluntary subscription. Last year alone 316 sets were provided, which cost the Society more than £ 4,000.
