This feature programme will reconstruct some 'of the memorable moments in Elgar's life. Facilities for the closest research were generously afforded to the BBC hy Elgar's only daughter, Mrs. Elgar-Blake, and the story of the composer as presented to listeners will have the hall-mark of absolute authenticity. The compilers have had access to private letters, early MSS. and unfinished music ; and it has been a labour of love to delve into the Elgarian treasures at Worcester.
Listeners will hear a reconstruction of the ceremony at which Elgar was pre-' sented with the freedom of his native city ; of conversations at his father's music shop with Ned Spires , an ex-actor and Shakespeare enthusiast who inspired Eigar with a love of the Bard and thus helped towards The creation of that musical masterpiece ' Falstaff of his own struggles as a composer ; and many other interesting events of his life.
