Song hits of the moment
From cathedral chorister to cinema organist - this has been the story of Felton Rapley. First a chorister at Winchester Cathedral, then, at the age of thirteen, organist at Hursley Parish Church in Hampshire, Rapley entered the musical side of the cinema industry at the age of seventeen. He was musical director at a number of South-Coast cinemas, and soon became a theatre organist, in which capacity he has held posts all over the country.

' Pig Clubs—1941 ' : A review ot the year by Cedric Drewe , M.P., Chairman of the Small Pig-Keepers' Council
In September 1940, when the blitzes were in full blast, wartime pig clubs were in their infancy, but there were already 200 in the country. It seems incredible to think that today there are 2,100 clubs, producing 7,000 tons of pig meat a year. This will be the first time the Chairman has spoken to the clubs since the summer. He will deal with all the latest news and regulations.

From a Northern concert hall
Beethoven himself called the Eighth Symphony a ' little ' symphony, and although it is imbued from first to last with gay spirits and its texture is almost as light as a Haydn or Mozart symphony, it was no great success when it was first performed. The reason for this. said Beethoven, is ' because it is so much better than the other ' (the No. 7).
Tchaikovsky once wrote an analysis of this symphony in which he said: ' It Is the last bright smile, the last response given by the poet of human sorrows and hopeless despair to the voice of gladness..... It is filled with a restrained joy. It depicts the gentle earthly delights of humanity before the soul is distracted by evil, doubt, and despair.'
